Sighting an opportunity for a high-end sports memorabilia store in the Lower Mainland, the Weiss brothers, Larry and Daryl, opened the Collector’s Den. That was in 1990, and they've been proudly serving fellow sports fans ever since.
“Sports have always been a big part of our lives," says Daryl. "Larry and I have always played sports and we were always trading cards with our school friends. We just saw an opening in the market for a store like this."
Following the success of their Lougheed Mall location, which offered trading cards and memorabilia, the Collector’s Den added sports jerseys and custom jerseys to their inventory when they moved the family business to Metropolis at Metrotown in 1998. “We are one of the few places in the Lower Mainland that offers customized jerseys. We carry the jerseys of all kinds of different sports teams. At our store, sports fans can purchase a custom jersey of their favourite hockey, football or baseball player,” says Daryl. “When something is hot on the market we tend to have it. If there’s been a trade on the Canucks, then we have their jersey hanging within a day or two.”
If you’re in the market for tickets to the next game, the Collector’s Den can help you out there, too. “In 2006, we brought Ticketmaster into the store," explains Daryl, "and currently we are one of the few places in Vancouver, and the only one in Burnaby, where customers can purchase and pick up their tickets in-store.”
