At nine years old, Randy Solomon was hooked on nature, thanks in part to family camping trips to Vancouver Island's Miracle Beach Provincial Park. Fittingly, he now resides in Port Moody, which has the highest ratio of parkland per capita in the Lower Mainland. It's where his appreciation for nature is nurtured, but also, it's Backyard Bird Centre's locale, his specialty store for birdwatchers and backyard bird-feeding hobbyists.
Originally, Randy started his career as a CGA, but after 10 years as a number cruncher he realized he lacked any passion for the profession. His initial love for the outdoors took over, and in 1995 he became a franchisee of Wild Bird Centre in Burnaby. In 2007, he flew the coup to branch out independently and opened Backyard Bird Centre in Newport Village.
