Picture a storefront window with posters of male models dressed in bright orange prison jumpsuits. Each of them is holding a sign that features the businesses name and phone number, and each of the models has brilliantly coiffed hair.
That’s what you’ll see at the entrance way toThe Buzz Hair Styling for Men on Brant Street in Burlington, a few steps from the lakeshore. The catch is the men you’re looking at aren’t prisoners or models; they’re actual clients.
The advertising plan was devised by owner and stylist John Moynihan. He initially just wanted to make full use of his large front windows and the concept grew from there. “Because they’re not models, they were so uncomfortable trying to pose,” John explains of his clients. “And I didn’t want it looking like one of the cheesy magazines you used to see in the barbershops. So half way through the shoot we decided this is not really working and the only thing I could think of where you don’t have to pose or smile was a mug shot.”
John says the posters got people talking and got the men noticed when they were out about town.
