Akira Restaurant

I ordered the Beef Teriyaki this evening, and it was, by far, the worst meal I've ever had. The meat was a very poor cut of meat, full of gristle and fat, and to add insult to injury, served nearly RAW. The meat was red, not even a pink. Most of it went back to the kitchen, uneaten. I wouldn't even feed my dog the quality of meat that was served to me. Shame on them for serving such low quality food. NEVER AGAIN.

Food was very good..service was fast..I read other reviews and thought the service would be slow but they were on it from the start to the end..I will eat there twice a month I think..very tasty food indeed.

great food horrible service

this is one of those places that makes you decide how much you are willing to sacrifice for good food. Your party's meals will never be served at the same time and you better not ever be in a rush. Be prepared for some eye rolling when you ask for more soy sauce and don't expect a tea refill. on the other hand the fish is fresh and the food delicious. for a long time i put up with the high prices and poor service, but the disrespect finally got to me. i have been a customer since they first opened and i get treated horribly. I do enjoy the warm hello they give everyone when you arrive, but that's where the friendliness begins and ends. The other day on a pick up order they were rude to my wife so enough is enough. they never offer to fix their wrongs and i have been loyal long enough. good bye akira. Kingston now has many many sushi choices. I am voting with my feet and my dollars. I would stay away.

This sushi restaurant has great food and great prices. It is a smaller restaurant with limited wait staff so be prepared to wait, but the food is worth the wait.

The food is amazing and they decorate it according to the name if you just get rolls and not a meal. for example if you get the spider rolls they put them all in the shape and decorate it as a spider and put sauce on the plate with sesame seeds to make it look like a web.. never takes long to get food even when they are busy and the service is always fantastic and the servers are always smiling! Highly recommended for sushi lovers and soon to become sushi lovers!!

Lovely Japanese food

Wonderful fresh Japanese food. My friend and I asked for a couple of changes to our dishes and the server agreed with a smile. The food was perfect. The party was not very hungry so we only ate about $15 each in food for a sushi snack. Meals came with a lovely fresh salad topped with finely grated beets and carrots. The atmosphere was lovely and clean, but casual too.

I've lived in Japan for 10 years. Moving to Canada was a sacrifice when it came to my love for sushi... until I found this place! The salmon sashimi, Hamachi and white tuna are to die for - marbled and melts in your mouth!!! The owners and staff are very friendly. I've eaten at many sushi places around Kingston but you don't get the quality of fish and a pleasant experience like this one. If you like sushi - you've found a good place : )

I literally just got home from eating there.. and oh my god.. I have not had better sushi, EVER! The service was amazing, but I went just before closing and had most of the attention :) This was the first time I had been there, and I would recommend it to anyone in Kingston or the surrounding areas. I used to live in the Toronto area – and know good sushi when I see/taste it. This was amazing! Nothing else in Kingston compares – honestly. I have been to every japanese restaurant in Kingtson, and this one tops. The prices were awesome. I left completely satisfied for under $40 (which is amazing considering I am used to paying close to $60 or more to be full).

After 2 years of waiting, we finally made it to this restaurant. The first thing we had was tempura. So if you've had tempura and you thought it was pretty good, well, think again. Was your tempura soggy and not crispy (yes, this could be called soggy)? Well, not this place! I'm told the secret is to use fresh oil. Shame on you who do not use fresh oil! The next item we had was grilled hamachi neck that was sooo good! Tender, flaky, and delicious. Then came the rolls. First it was the spider roll complete with deep fried soft shell crab. The pictures will say it all. The next roll that came was the kamikaze roll. The salmon, tuna, avocado, and cucumber were all fresh with the spicy sauce and tempura flakes sprinkled all over the plate. The third and final roll was a green dragon roll. The shrimp tempura and avocado inside topped with thinly sliced avocado. In general, the presentation is spectacular. You can see that there is a lot of skill and experience that goes into the creation of these rolls. Also, there is no skimping on the ingredients. The rolls are tightly packed and dense. Cannot complain one bit about the rolls. The final part of our meal was a combination plate of sashimi and sushi. You name it, it was on it. Tuna, white tuna, salmon, hamachi, sprinkled with gold flakes. The sashimi was out of this world. Nothing had a fishy taste and I could keep eating it until they had none left in the fridge. My dad had vegetable udon and it was also up to the standard of everything else. Prices seem pretty average (at least in comparison to California). All in all, this was a great experience. The service was top notch and always with a smile. The food was prepared quickly with care and delivered flawlessly. If I lived anywhere near this restaurant, I'd be here at least once a week.

Akira Restaurant is exemplary in the artistry of food service. Not only are their dishes quickly and expertly prepared, but their presentation is spectacular in itself. Easily the best Japanese restaurant in Kingston, they offer a modern yet relaxing atmosphere. With consistent, fine service, Akira is a must for enthusiasts of Japanese cuisine.

Always excellent

Spectacular service, wonderful though a bit kitchy music (though it is just fine j-pop and j-soft pop), amazing menu. The place is clean and relaxing. Wow. One of the best restaurants in Kingston.

Great Sushi in Kingston

Finally some really great sushi in Kingston! The sushi is fresh and well presented. Only problem is our order did take quite a while. We also ordered a seaweed salad which was so vinegar-y we couldn't eat it, we left it on the table and it was making our eyes water!!! But the sushi is excellent - I recommend ordering it in but call well in advance as delivery does take a while! Overall it is the best sushi I have had in Kingston though!

Still amazing

I had to write another review for Akira because Ive been back about 5 times since I wrote my previous review for this restaurant. The food continues to amaze me and this place appears to be gaining popularity. I have to say if you enjoy soft shell crab try the Spider Roll at Akira. Its a bit pricy but it was amazing and they present it in such an innovative way. The only downside really is the place gets pretty busy on the weekend evenings and our wait time was quite long. However I still argue this place offers the best sushi in Kingston. You won't be disappointed.

Excellent Food and Service

The luncheon specials had a lot of variety and we all had leftovers. I love the decor. You have lots of room between tables. The food was excellent. Colorful, really well presented and scrumptious. The staff are also very knowledgeable. They have a small room for a larger party.

We had known this restaurant existed for a while...

We had known this restaurant existed for a while but hadn't made the effort to stop in. Last night we were coming home late from work and decided to give it a shot. We were with our 6 month old daughter. As soon as we stepped inside the door we were greeted by all staff in sight - they were all so friendly. The restuarant is classy yet still cozy and "friendly". We know that some restaurants don't always welcome the sight of a baby entering their establishment but the waitress at Akira made it a point to talk to our daughter and even offered to bring her some food. On to the most important part... the food! It was great! Entrees include a small but wonderful salad and a small bowl of soup. The entrees were presented beautifully and made from fresh ingredients. We had been searching for a Japenese restaurant in Kingston and now we've found it. We are dying to go back again!

Super- sushi in K-Town

After visiting this place in Kingston, I could not satisfy with anyother sushi place in downtown anymore, this place is a bit far. But I would rather take a long trip to get this nice food again!
