extremely disappointed...should have left before drinks!!!

Where shall I begin? We picked Spice of Life to celebrate a Birthday, and some milestones in our childrens' life. We checked out the menu on line, and called for a reservation. When I called, the hostess asked if we had any dietary concerns, to which I responded no. We were impressed that they asked. Our reservation was for 5pm on a Saturday night in July. We arrived a few moments early and were greeted by a lovely young lady and directed to our table. We noticed it to be a little warm in the dining room and the flies were terrible. So bad, that they had plastic deli take out containers of pennies on the tables in water to ward off the flies. A few moments later, the menus arrived and she offered to take our drink orders. She began by asking if the person that took our reservation explained that they currently do not have a liquor license and would therefore not be able to serve alcohol. We all responded with no we weren't advised. She asked if that was ok, we paused and then said oh well, I guess. BIG MISTAKE, we should have left then. We ordered soft drinks, one person in our party wanted a 7-up or sprite, was informed that there was only ginger ale. The drinks arrived and our order was taken. We enquired about the salads, if they were appetizer size or dinner size, told they were dinner size. We ordered: Appetizers--Spring Rolls, Garlic bundles, Mediterranean Maze, Ceasar Salad (split between two) Dinner--Sea-Food Bello, Fusilli with Vegetables, Penne with Shrimp, a ceasar salad (dinner for our teenager) and two Pecan crusted Chicken stuffed with Goats Cheese (I had asked for the Mango Chicken, told that they didn't have that available, sorry for not informing me. The first to arrive were the appetizers: Ceasar Salad had very little dressing and No flavour. Garlic Bundles tasted like they weren't cooked on the outside. Spring Rolls were ok. By the time dinner arrived, we had to cover the basket of bread with a plate as the flies were so bad, I even commented at this point, I'd move inside to finish my dinner...oh wait we were inside. We had to ask for refills on our soft drinks. Dinner arrived, and was an even bigger disappointment. The Sea-Food dish was very small for the price, and the mushrooms were burnt beyond eating. The Pecan crusted chicken tasted like a pre-packaged frozen dinner from the grocery store, definitely not home made. The supposed dinner size ceasar salad was no where near the size of a dinner plate. I'm so sorry to report such a negative comment, but feel others should know. The worst is that the waitress took the brunt of our disappointment with a very cheap tip, the first in all our years of dining out. By the time we left we were all hot and wishing we had left before we ordered drinks.

Pretty good - I had the samosas and the Thai dish with green curry and shrimp. However, I might try something else if I go again. The service was great since we had two servers looking after our group of 8. The atmosphere on the patio and walkway was lively and a good spot for an early weekend summer evening.

Whilst visiting family in Port Dalhousie we decided to stop in at Spice of Life for dinner as we had talked many times previously about sampling their delights. The appestiser of thai satay was extremely flavorful and an excellent start to the meal. The butter chicken was mouth watering. Being an ex-pat Brit, curry is a favorite dish of mine and I have to say that Spice of Life's Butter Chicken made me think of home, and there can be no higher praise than that.
