Whether you need a couple of nails, some free advice on a home renovation project or paint for your entire house, there’s a place in Ladner where you can find it all.
Ladner Village Hardware carries upwards of 30,000 items, comparable to any large hardware store even though its floor space is only 2,200 sq ft, explains owner James Price. Here, you'll find everything you need to fix up and enhance a home and garden, from the numbers by your front door to new plumbing fixtures and parts for your garden hose.
When he took over the store, James brought with him considerable experience in the construction and renovation business from his previous career as a general contractor. These days, he’s happy to be working with his feet firmly planted on the ground and out of the elements, helping customers figure out how to repair and renovate their own homes.
“I didn’t want to be an old guy falling off a roof,” James says about his previous construction career. “And in the store, it’s not as cold and blustery in the winter or hot in the sun in summer.”
Initially my Husband and I were happy with the service at Ladner Village Hardware, however, when a defective product failed. -- within a month of purchase - we were not provided any satisfaction - the store owner would not even provide the courtesy of a return call. As someone who works in a similar environment, I do know how demanding customers can be - as an accountant, I also understand the financial realities of a small business, what I don't understand is poor customer service. I love to shop local, but unresponsive ownership drives customers away - and the big box stores win.
